So here's my question: How do you do that? No, not how do you do that in general, but how do YOU do that? How do YOU go deeper? An easy answer is that you meditate to go deeper. But then, what are you doing in meditation that takes you deeper? I wish you were here to have this conversation with me in person because I think it would take me deeper. :-)
See, I want to go deeper. I contemplate how to go deeper and am on a radical spiritual path in order to be always deeper.
But even in middle school, I wanted to be deeper. I envied my troubled friends who had difficult childhoods because their sadness & pain gave them something I just didn't have.
I had a Leave It To Beaver childhood in Ponca City, Oklahoma, USA. If there were difficulties in my family, we did not address them. Sometime I'll tell you about my childhood. Anyway, it bugged me that my life was boring and beige-colored matched to, for example, my friend Barbara, whose parents had gotten divorced when she was really young. Probably other really bad things had happened to her as well, because when we were 15, she smoked cigarettes, drank alcohol and had sex with boys. I was fascinated by her and the others in her wild group. I didn't smoke, drink or have sex with boys, but the wild ones invited me anyway to their drinking parties when their parents were out of town. I watched them, all innocent (see Beaver with a puzzled look on his face). You get the picture.
That began my fascination with life outside my universe of experience. Then when I was in high school, experimenting briefly with psychedelic mushroom and LSD opened the door much wider. I got a glimpse of life beyond the realm of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
I was relieved.
Fast forward 40 years and you find me 15 years along a serious path to spiritual freedom with a Master named Kalindi G. still intrigued, curious and devoted to going always deeper.
So to answer my own question about how to go deeper:
Drop. Fall. Jump off the cliff. While you jump, shed all your thoughts about prayer, silence, processes, rules, beliefs in full acceptance that you will be carried by that force called God nearer to His heart.
And no, I don't know what that means. All I know is, it works.
Thank you for listening.
